How to Create a Shopify Collection

Shopify collections are useful both for you and your clients. For your customers, they help find what they are looking for without having to browse your store for a while. For you, they help manage your products, especially if you have a large inventory.

Shopify collections are good for promoting your stuff, too. Creating thematic ones and putting them on the front page of your online store can attract clients’ attention.

There are different ways of creating a collection. If you want to gather items from a similar category (for example, kid’s shoes or bottles of white wine), it might be easier to create an automated one. If items in your collection don’t have much in common, a manual one might be your choice.

To create an automated Shopify collection:

  1. From your Shopify admin, go to Products, then to Collections
  2. In your top right corner, hit “Create collection”
  3. In the “Collection type” section, choose “Automated”
  4. Edit the conditions. They work like a simple equation. Here, you want to set up parameters which will determine what items will be in your collection.
  5. If you want to, you can edit the search engine listing preview. It shows how your collection is going to look like in Google, Chrome, or any other search engine results.
  6. In the Sales channel section, select the ones where you want your collection to be available.
  7. Final touch: in the collection image section, click Add image and upload a cover for a collection. Add a name and description.
  8. Don’t forget to hit Save!

To create a manual Shopify collection

  1. Repeat steps 1 and 2 from the previous list
  2. In the “Collection type” section, choose “Manual”
  3. Click “Save”
  4. In the “Products” section, search or browse for products you want your collection to have
  5. Set the order for the products
  6. Repeat steps 6 to 8 from the previous list
